National Directors Report / APHA Update –

Submitted by Paula Mullins:

Just around the corner is the APHA Workshop scheduled for May 29-31 at the Sheraton Grand, in Irving , TX .   It is at this time the Board of Directors and Standing Committees will present the rule change proposals for amendments.

The tentative World Show Schedule and forms are available on-line at www.aphaworldshow.com.  NOTE:  there have been changes implemented since the schedule was first posted.

Once again the APHA’s Gelding Plus Program will be promoting aged geldings 4 years old and older worldwide by paying out $3,000 to each of the 11 Zone shows and select international shows this year.

American Paint horse JJS Summer Breeze has been registered in The Guinness Book of World Records as having the longest horse’s tail, measuring in at 12.5 feet!

Hart Trailers will be offering four $500 scholarships – two at the Intercollegiate Horse Judging Spring Sweepstakes and two at the AjPHA World Championship Judging Contest.

APHA announced a new partnership with Pfizer Animal Health, naming them as one of the 2008 Corporate Sponsors.  As part of Pfizer’s relationship with APHA, the company plans to host an educational seminar on equine health and management for attendees at APHA’s 38th annual Convention October 2-4 in San Diego , CA .  Other APHA Corporate Sponsors include Barnmaster, Inc, Chase Visa, Gist Silversmiths, Hart Trailers, Markel Insurance Company and New Holland.

Negotiations are ongoing with Professional Auction Services to manage the select sale to be held during the APHA Fall Championship Show in November 2008.

Another new concept being developed is a Breeders’ Futurity to be held during the Fall Champions Show beginning in 2009.  More to follow in the PH Journal.

Paint racing superstar Got Country Grip won his 16th consecutive lifetime race to tie the North American record for consecutive wins.  His record is now tied with a few of the most illustrious names in Thoroughbred racing – Citation, Cigar, Mister Finky and Hallowed Dreams – for the most consecutive wins by any racing breed in North America.  Owned by Jimmy Maddux of Weatherford , TX , trained by Brandon Parum and ridden in all 16 races by G.R.Carter, Jr.

Reaching the $3 million sire mark is a rare accomplishment in just about every equine discipline; however Paint racing has seen two stand-out sires surpass this feat within the last four months.  Judys Lineage recently joined Texas Hero to become the second $3M sire in Paint racing history.
